Seed Processing

In order to supply our farming community with the best quality seeds, we follow the well established and accepted methods of seed processing. These include among others harvesting physiologically mature seed at the appropriate moisture content. The seed is dried, cleaned, graded and sorted to the required standards and then conditioned/dressed appropriately.

Seed Production

Pearl Seeds Limited is multiplying and increasing the seed variety amounts to commercial levels of Open Pollinated Varieties (OPVs) and Hybrids of cereals and pulses through established network of out growers. These outgrowers are provided with foundation (basic) seed by the Company. In future Pearl Seeds intends to also use Community Based Organisations and Producer Organisations to produce seed alongside the out growers.

The various locations of seed production across the country include; Gulu, Nwoya, Amuru, Lira, Oyam and Apac in Northern Uganda, Soroti, Serere, Amuria and Kumi in Eastern Uganda, Iganga and Kamuli in East Central, Mityana and Mubende in Central and Masindi and Hoima in Mid-Western and Kibaale and Kyenjojo in Western Uganda. These areas of production were purposely selected because they have quite large acreage with the necessary isolation required to avoid contamination. In addition these areas traditionally produce these crops on commercial scale and are used to them, so improving on their production skills is easier.

The out growers are closely monitored by some extension workers recruited by Pearl Seeds Ltd to ensure that right seed production procedures are followed. Pearl Seeds Ltd also seeks technical guidance from the staff of National Seed Certification Service (NSCS) in the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) to inspect and certify the improved seeds. Over time, the company intends to acquire land and expand its seed production activities.

Seed Market & Distribution

Pearl seeds Ltd enjoys the trust of 1500 Agro dealers across the country. We do operate in Uganda and East african region

We have a highly qualified and experienced sales and marketing team operating across the country. They act as bridge between the company and the end customer - the farmer. The front line marketing team works in close association with the farmers, understand their requirements, educate them about the various products, help them take a beneficial decision, and ensure the timely availability of the seed at sales point . The team also provides constant support to the dealers and Agents .They ensure availability of stocks indented by the trade and mobilize the customers through personal contacts and advertisements to the retail point.

Transfer of technological innovations to the farmers fields is another important responsibility of our team. We conduct field demonstrations and invite progressive farmers of the locality to demonstrate them the benefits of the improved variety (new products), better management practices and various plant protection measures.

With the help of the customer care service, we always stand by the farmer to support him to the core in handling the rare problems like poor germination and under performance of the product in stress situations, which mostly arise due to the biological nature of the seed material and its interaction with the environment. We are with the farmer all through from sowing to harvesting providing them the appropriate after- sale- service.

We also keep ourselves commercially ahead, taking up various promotional and branding activities, testing and showing the potential of our pipe line hybrids to the customers and launching new products in the market. In a way we provide an end-to-end solution to our farmers.

We do avail various packaging to our customers i.e 1kg, 2kg, 5kg, 10kg, 15kg and 50kg.

We commit our selves to quality and thus use tamper proof labels and E-tags on our packs which farmers can use to verify the genuinity of the product.
